Why Success In Network Marketing Means Lot’s of Failure…And Why It’s Good It Hapens that Way
I’m writing this post at 11:48pm
after getting off an 1 hr and 45 minute phone ramble with my good friend and business partner, Dave Wood. I decided I wanted to share what seemed to be a common theme with both of us, and in doing so, it will help you a lot with your business.
The common theme was failure.
Now I know what you’re thinking….”C’mon Dave…I know you failed, and now your business is blowing up…but what’s the secret?”
That is the secret. Failure. Let me explain….
Of all the things I’ve tried to grow my business, they haven’t all worked successfully (by grow I mean retail and recruit). I just don’t go pronouncing my failures all over the place. However, about 75% of the stuff I do doesn’t work and only about 25% is actually effective (sometimes less). And the 25% is usually the last thing I try.
Here’s a quick example:
About 6 months ago, I ran a campaign where I sold a live coaching course. It was an all live course that would be taught through a webinar (this is actually how a lot of products are sold these days in the MLM training and information marketing industry….but that’s another blog post). The actual goal of this campaign was to sponsor people into my primary MLM business and win a vacation my company was giving away through a special promo contest.
People could either access the course though joining my business, or they could buy it for $199 (or somewhere around there). Well, the campaign was a complete flop. I made 7-10 sales and sponsored a few people, but overall, the returns were poor for the time I invested and I didn’t accomplish my goal of recruiting enough people to win the vacation. (I later realized the mistake I made was giving my prospects to many options. I should have either sold the course or gave it away as a bonus if they joined. Not both.) It was a really great lesson to for me to learn.
So how do I get really good results when only 25% of my stuff works? Because when that 25% works, it works REALLY WELL. The same went for Dave (Wood). And remember, were talking about two ‘twenty something’ yr old guys working from home, making more money than 99% of people in the world. “We ain’t no slouches”.
So why do so many network marketers get frustrated about failing when it’s all part of “the process”. If you’re not failing, you’re not doing it right. No one is going to walk into ANY industry and crush it right off the bat. Think about it like this…..

A baseball player gets payed millions of dollars to swing a baseball bat and successfully hit 3 times for every 10 times to the plate. That means he’s got about the same failure rate as I do. And to him and his “boss”, that’s damn good and they pay him millions of dollars to fail 7 out of 10 times.
So here’s your call to action. If what your doing isn’t working to grow your businesses…don’t quit. Just do something different. It’s really simple. Problem is, most people never give themselves the chance to succeed. They quit to soon and never experience the exhilaration of persevering through to victory. Don’t do that.
Note: Charlie Sheen has absolutely nothing to do with this post except for the fact that his new theme is “winning”. However, all successful people have failed more than they’ve won. And Mr. “winning” is probably a pretty good example of that (smile).
Go Now …and be awesome. All day, everyday!
